Dentistry is our profession.
People are our focus.

Dr Alana Mitchell - BDS (Otago)

After graduating in 2004 from Otago University, Alana gained experience working at the Hutt Valley Hospital. After working in private practices in Australia and New Zealand Alana took the plunge and bought her own business, Beachside Dental Surgery in 2010. Beachside Dental Surgery has since undergone many changes, the biggest being the relocation to the current premises in 2013.

Alana is extremely proud of the level of care and service the practice provides. Her vision is for Beachside Dental Surgery to be a sustainable, people focused dental practice which achieves excellence in care and service.

Aside from dentistry, Alana enjoys spending her time with her two young boys, cycling and getting outdoors.

Dr Steven Mckinstry - BDS (Otago) MBChB (Auckland)

Steven completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery at Otago University in 2004. After graduating, Steven worked part-time in private practice for several years, while pursuing his passion for multi sport racing.  He then undertook a role at Nelson Hospital where he developed a strong interest in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Steven relocated to Auckland in 2009 where he completed his MBChB, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery.

After 3 years as a Junior Doctor in various hospital posts at Auckland, Middlemore and Christchurch Hospitals, his medical training was put on hold when he moved to Wellington to undertake a medical research role at Wellington Hospital. Alongside this role he joined our team, with his extensive medical background and a special interest in oral surgery he is able to offer IV sedation to our patients.

He still likes to ride his bike competitively and lives in Ngaio with his wife and young family.

Dr Richard Reedman- BDS (Otago)

Richard graduated from Otago University with his Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 1986. On completion of his study, he undertook a position in a private practice in his hometown of Wellington. Over the past 33 years he has worked at practices in Wellington, Hutt Valley and the Kapiti Coast. Richard has a special interest in denture cases and enjoys working alongside our visiting Dental Technician.

In his spare time he is most likely to be found in his garden, undertaking DIY projects or on one of the regions cycle tracks. His other interests include classic cars, woodwork, art and home brewing.

Dr Mark McCue - BDS (Dundee, SCT)

Mark graduated from the University of Dundee in 2011. Over the past 8 years, Mark has worked in Scotland, Australia and New Zealand, in private practices in Westport and Havelock North, before joining us at Beachside Dental Surgery in early 2017.

In his spare time, Mark enjoys going to the theater, sampling Wellington’s nightlife and local gigs.

Libby Currie - BSc (Birmingham, UK)

After falling in to dental assisting purely out of need for a job, Libby was a little surprised to find her calling. Over the next year she swiftly achieved her Dental Assisting qualification in the UK and found a passion that she wanted to develop further. Libby applied to study Dental Hygiene and Therapy at the University of Birmingham and qualified in 2010. After a honeymoon in NZ in 2011, she and her husband were sold.

Since arriving in 2013, Libby worked alongside a Periodontal (gum) specialist in Lower Hutt. A plot of land in Waikanae lured her up the coast and a little pestering of Alana landed her at Beachside Dental in September 2018.

Libby enjoys meeting new patients and helping them maintain their teeth by tailoring comprehensive treatment to the need of the individual. She firmly believes that no replacements are as good as your own teeth.

Outside of work, Libby has two little girls who keep her busy. She enjoys growing succulents but has no clue what occupies the many pots on her deck!

Kim Cerhak - Practice Manager

Kim has been working in multiple private practices since 2006. Kim became a qualified dental assistant in 2014. After completing the NZDA DA course, Kim was awarded first in Wellington and first in New Zealand for her efforts within the course. Kim joined us at Beachside in June of 2017 as our practice manager. Kim has built up her skills and knowledge from attending many sterlisation, reception and general practice managing courses while at Beachside. Kim is highly motivated and organised, which makes her the perfect practice manager.

Aside from giving up multiple weekends, helping maintain the gardens or going through the lengthy process of validating our sterilisation machines, Kim can be found cycling and spending time with her husband, family and friends. Kim also makes the best cupcakes, which we are lucky enough to receive for birthdays, Valentines day and other special occasions.
