Dr Alana Mitchell - BDS (Otago)

After graduating in 2004 from Otago University, Alana gained experience working at the Hutt Valley Hospital. After working in private practices in Australia and New Zealand Alana took the plunge and bought her own business, Beachside Dental Surgery in 2010. Beachside Dental Surgery has since undergone many changes, the biggest being the relocation to the current premises in 2013.

Alana is extremely proud of the level of care and service the practice provides. Her vision is for Beachside Dental Surgery to be a sustainable, people focused dental practice which achieves excellence in care and service.

Aside from dentistry, Alana enjoys spending her time with her two young boys, cycling and getting outdoors.

Dr Mark McCue - BDS (Dundee)

Mark graduated from the University of Dundee in 2008. Since then Mark has worked in Scotland, Australia and New Zealand, in private practices in Westport and Havelock North, before joining us at Beachside Dental Surgery in early 2017.

In his spare time Mark enjoys swimming and has recently got back into ocean swimming. He enjoys travelling and exploring what New Zealand has to offer.

Dr Richard Reedman - BDS (Otago)

Richard graduated from Otago University with his Bachelor of Dental Surgery in 1986. On completion of his study, he undertook a position in a private practice in his hometown of Wellington. Over the past 33 years he has worked at practices in Wellington, Hutt Valley and the Kapiti Coast. Richard has a special interest in denture cases and enjoys working alongside our visiting Dental Technician.

In his spare time he is most likely to be found in his garden, undertaking DIY projects or on one of the regions cycle tracks. His other interests include classic cars, woodwork, art and home brewing.

Dr Steven McKinstry - BDS (Otago) MBChB (Auckland) PhD (Victoria)

Steven is a dually trained dentist and medical doctor, who has a special interest in surgical dentistry procedures including difficult extractions, wisdom teeth, orthodontic exposures, IV sedation and oral pathology. He has broad experience in general practice, hospital dentistry, oral surgery and medicine, especially emergency medicine. With all this experience, Steven is perfectly placed to treat medically complex patients, as well as offer safe and effective IV sedation.

Steven completed his dental degree at Otago University in 2004, alongside classmate Alana. Steven developed a strong interest in oral/maxillofacial surgery, which lead to completing his medical degree in 2011. He then spent three years as a medical Doctor on various hospital rotations, including in oral/maxillofacial surgery. Steven began working part-time at Beachside Dental in 2016, after moving to Wellington to undertake a medical research PhD. He then spent 2019 working in emergency medicine at Wellington and Hutt Hospital. While he is not a specialist oral surgeon, he is excited to offer the skills he has developed to the Kapiti Coast community.

Outside of work, Steven and his wife, Anna enjoy spending time with their daughter, Iris. Steven has several years of involvement with the iconic, Coast-to-Coast race. Steven has one individual victory and two, Two Day Team victories. His main past-time is spent enjoying endurance sport along with high-level road cycling races both locally and nationally. 

 
 
 

Kim Cerhak - Practice Manager

Kim started working in private practice in 2006 whilst raising her young family and completed the NZDA Certificate in Dental Assisting in 2014 placing first in New Zealand.

Kim joined Beachside in June of 2017 as the clinical lead for our support staff before moving into her current role later that year. Her clinical background and knowledge help her to maintain the practice’s high standards of compliance and daily operations. Kim has enjoyed her involvement with the opening of our Rimu Road surgery, where she is now based and oversees the running of both practices.

Kim enjoys attending local gigs with her husband and together they are planning on completing more of New Zealand’s Great Walks.

 

Mikaela Morton- Oral Health Therapist

Mikaela graduated from the Univerisity of Otago with a Bachelor of Oral Health. Prior to attending University she has previously worked at Beachside Dental Surgery as a Dental Assistant.

With having a dual scope Mikaela is able to undertake dental procedures on both adolescents and adults. She enjoys educating her patients on the importance of having great oral health.

In her spare time, Mikaela has recently taken up golfing and loves adventuring around New Zealand with her partner in their van.
